Swachh Bharat Mission transforming women’s sanitation with innovation
Recognising this, the Swachh Bharat Mission has placed a strong focus on creating women-friendly toilets that address these critical needs.
Seven sanitation workers died of asphyxiation, while cleaning an underground septic tank of a private hatchery, in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district on Friday.
The incident occurred at a poultry farm of Venakteswara Hatcheries Limited in Moram village, when one worker entered the septic tank through a manhole but raised an alarm when he felt breathless after inhaling the poisonous gas.
The seven other workers went in one after the other but they too met with the same fate.

After security guards of the poultry farm raised an alarm, local villagers rushed to the spot and broke open the tank in their bid to rescue the workers.
Out of eight men pulled out from the tank, one was found dead, while seven others seven were in an unconscious state.
Three of the workers died on the way to hospital while three others died while undergoing treatment.
As per media reports, only one worker identified as Shivakumar Reddy, survived, while the deceased have been identified as Reddappa, Ramachandra, Kesava, Ramesh, Govinda Swamy, Babu and Venkat Raju.
Police said that it appeared that the sanitation supervisor had failed to assess the situation properly correctly before sending the workers inside.
A case of causing deaths by negligence has been registered against the company.
